Medieval Studies Program By-laws
I. Membership.

All full-time faculty in the University of Georgia who teach medieval courses identified by the Medieval Studies Program are eligible for membership. Active members must identify themselves annually.

II. Director and Steering Committee.

The UGA Medieval Studies Program is coordinated by a Director who is recommended by the Medieval Studies Faculty for appointment by the Dean of the Franklin College. The Director is appointed for a renewable term of three years. He or she coordinates course-listings and/or course-offerings, maintains student records, and organizes Program activities including lectures, outside speakers, and other activities deemed appropriate by the membership.

A Steering Committee is elected annually by simple majority. It assists the Director in the above activities, screens students' requests for the undergraduate Certificate, and recommends program changes to the MS faculty for vote. The Steering Committee also recommends names for election and/or renewal of Director.

III. Meetings, Quorum, and Votes.

The Director and/or Steering Committee must call at least one meeting annually to identify active members for the year. Other meetings may be called by the Director, Steering Committee, or any group of three active members. Agendas of called meetings must be announced to all members one week in advance by surface mail or e-mail. Quorum consists of a simple majority of faculty identified annually for membership.

All votes concerning regular business may be conducted at meetings, by surface mail, or by e-mail. Motions put to ballot are passed by a simple majority of the ballots cast.

Proxy votes and absentee ballots may be accepted upon motion at any regular or called meeting.

IV. By-laws.

Changes to the By-laws require a 2/3 majority vote by active members at a regular or called meeting or by surface-mail.
